Whew! This weather!The dog days of summer have arrived. Hot, sultry, long days. For most of us anyway. That expression, “dog days of summer,” originated in ancient Rome and Greece and were related to the “dog star” that appeared in the sky this time of year. Hmmm, did Little Jesus ever hear that expression? Let’s talk a bit about dogs. The life experience of dogs has come a long way since this Mimi was a Little. Many people these days treat them as furry humans — even an extension of the human family. How might it have been for an abandoned puppy back in Little Jesus’ days? Viviana and Olivia wondered that very thing. Maybe a local resident had a soft spot for dogs, but there likely were no shelters or rescues. Chances are the animals would hang around places where they could find food and water — like the bread shop. One thing I know for certain: my two Little co-creators are convinced that Little Jesus would have had a dog. That’s their spin on life for Little Jesus. (Hint: details on the origin of that name are found in the Lonely Puppy story!) By the way, Olivia’s family is fostering a big puppy (pit mix) who needs a loving home.
